What are BackLinks?

Backlinks, also known as inbound links, are an HTML hyperlink from one website to another.

Backlinks are important for your SEO as they act as a ‘vote of confidence’ to search engines.

A high-ranking website linking back to your website is an indicator to search engines that your website is reputable and of value.

Quality Over Quantity

Long ago marketers could ‘trick’ Google by garnering many backlinks. Quality of the website they came from didn’t matter. However, those days are long gone and it’s quality of the site linking back to you that really matters.

Even Neil Patel, a well-known digital marketer, use to link swap with other sites.
Link swapping is where sites agree to link to each other. This is an absolute no-no in todays marketing world.

Neil also mentions in one of his podcasts, he worked with a WordPress theme provider to get a backlink on the footer of ever theme. Cleaver! but again a total no-no now-a-days.

Garnering Quality Backlinks

Building quality backlinks is hard. Really hard. High-quality content and good media outreach are essentially the only ways to garner good quality backlinks.

Contento makes media placement super easy. You can offer your articles to our extensive list of registered publishers.

Domain Authority And Backlinks

Search Engines have their own top-secret way of ranking websites. But we can use the now standard MOZ Domain Authority ranking, we can get a much better picture of how well our sites are doing in terms of authority.

What you want is for higher ranking websites to link back to yours.

With Contento, you can see the DA of the publisher and compare it against your own. If quality backlinks are your priority, then choosing to work with higher DA publishers is what you want.

Avoid Low-Quality Backlinks

Buying bulk backlinks, or hiring backlink ‘marketers’, almost always results in a lot of very poor quality backlinks.

Many link building agencies will focus on quantity of links and as a result the quality of content is poor. Usually ending up on some unkept blogs.

These low-quality links could negatively affect your SEO rankings. Google does penalise sites that try to game the algorithm.

As the saying goes “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”.

Backlink Building The Right Way

When it comes to backlink building; focus on quality content, and quality media placement.

It's better to have 15 high-value links, than 100 low-quality ones.

Engaging content that adds value to the reader is what is going to rank well in search results and will get snapped up by media as a guest post.
